Check it out: MichaelD's excellent DVD site posted a review of a DVD player today. It's the Linn Unidisk 2.1 player.

Linn, apparently, is a well-known Scottish company that produces high-end AV gear.

Here's the thing. This player is not their top-of-the-line model, but it retails for $13,999. That's not a typo. Fourteen thousand Australian dollars for a DVD player.

At what point is this a sensible purchase? I mean, how rich do you have to be that you would drop $14K on a DVD player? I can picture myself, if I was to win lotto, maybe spending two grand on a real high-end player, but not fourteen!

I really wonder what the benefits are. Are my eyes (even with better-than-20/20 vision) going to see any difference for that much money?
