Nokia Lumia 920 plus Australia Tax
Later this month the Nokia Lumia 920 will be launched in Australia. I can’t wait – I definitely want one.
In the US, you can buy a Lumia 920 outright from AT&T for $450.
In Australia, you have the privilege of being able to pay an 82% Australia Tax on top of that, as they’ll be retailing for $820 from Telstra.
We sure are the lucky country!

450$ is the price on AT&T, for an off contract, locked phone. The same phone costs 600+ at Best Buy and Wallmart. Probably also locked to AT&T.
This is probably a limited time price and will eventually be back to 600 on AT&T as well.
These phones usually cost more outside the US for many reasons but comparing to a discounted price is wrong.
When the Lumia 900 or 800 came out in the UK, they were giving away a free XBOX with it. that was also a temporary deal, but it effectively discounts the price of the phone. You still can't use that discounted price to compare it to Australia

Hi Ransh,
Yes, the $450 price is a special offer, but my point still stands for two reasons:
1. Why is there no equivalent offer in Australia?
2. Even without the offer, $820 is a lot more than the "$600+" price you can buy it for in the US when you consider that our dollar is stronger.
It's a sad fact that here in Aus we're charged whatever the retailers think they can get away with, without regard for the true value of the product.
