Death Cab For Cutie
On Friday night I stayed up to watch the first showing of jtv, TripleJ radio's new TV program. It turned out to be pretty entertaining - a good mix of music and interviews.
Anyway, one set featured two of the guys from Death Cab For Cutie doing a cover of Billy Bragg's "You Woke Up My Neighbourhood". I know I've heard one or two of DCFC's songs on TripleJ in the past, but I was blown away.
So the next day I picked up their 2005 album, Plans. Wow. What an amazing sound they have. I'm going so systematically work my way through their back catalogue now.
Anyway - just a heads up for those who, like me, enjoy folksy alternative pop music. Death Cab For Cutie is well worth a listen. Don't want to buy the CD? That's ok - their web site plays their music as a soundtrack. Very cool.

And that track will be owned by myself, as soon a the next 'Like A Version' compilation CD comes out (probably next year, as the last one came out only a few weeks ago). If you like folksy alternative pop Mabs, you'd do well to check out Like A version, and Like A version Two, they're chock full of folksy alternative pop cover songs ;-).

Yeah, I've looked closely at the LaV CDs. I just wish they'd include Art of Fighting's effort - I *still* don't know which song they covered. :(

If it's not on the jtv site, Dan, then I'd say it's unlikely you're gonna find it anywhere.
If you do, let me know!

Awwman, I didn't know AOF did one. Spewing they haven't included it. Now I feel like I'm missing out =(. Still, it might come as a b-side on an upcoming single or something... hopefully.

I also thought the song was great and did a bit of research on the group. The lead singer has also been in a band called The Postal Service and one of their songs, "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" has been played on Triple J. If you like DCFC then you will love this song.

spud - That was the funniest part - I've liked The Postal Service for ages! When I started listening to DCFC's "Plans" I kept commenting to Sal how much they reminded me of The Postal Service!!! :)
It wasn't until I did some reading on Wikipedia etc that I found out it was the same vocalist/songwriter!
