Back East!
Sal and I are back from our odyssey in the far west of our great nation!
I have a bit of a rant to make, but before that I have to say that we enjoyed the trip away, and enjoyed Perth in general. It's a lovely city with some great attractions. Now, onto the rant:
Some people don't embrace the geek lifestyle, and that's fine with me. If getting outside and playing sports, or camping, or whatever, works for them, that's great. However, this tolerance is not bi-directional. Whereas I, the geek, am quite happy to let other people live their lives the way they see fit, those people are far less happy with the idea of me living the geek lifestyle. They like to tell me that I should "get out more often", "play sports", "see the world" etc etc.
More often than not I smile and nod and they seem satisfied having preached their lifestyle to a non-believer. Sometimes I even listen to what they have to say and actually do get out there and "see the world".
However.
The more I get out there, the more I realise that the outdoor lifestyle is not for me. Believe it or not, I love my air conditioner. I love my couch. I love my PC, my DVD player, my widescreen TV, my laptop, my Xbox ... you get the picture.
What I don't love is walking for hours on end in 38 degree heat in an effort to "get out there" and "see the world". You can imagine that there was a fair bit of this during our holiday in Perth.
The highlight almost every day for me was getting back to our air-conditioned hotel room and watching TV.
So I think that I will stay true to my beliefs from hereon in. When someone tries to preach to me about how I should be living their life, maybe I won't be so quiet and accepting.
Stay tuned for a post where I wrap up what I did and didn't like about Perth and the west coast!

welcome back!
I look forward to hear of your future travels, and the hotel rooms you see...
it could be the new travellers guide for geeks - if you're travelling to San Diago, the Suchandsuch has black curtains to keep the dreaded sun out, and unmonitored broadband to every room. Room Service was A+ - I highly recommend San Diago.
PS other people told me the sights and tourist attractions were good, but thank god I didn't go out there to see them - I hate tourists.
