AWDNUG and Other News
Hi gang,
I've been lax in blogging of late because I've been ridiculously busy at work. The project that my co-worker Julie and I have spent the last two years on shipped at our largest site this week (it was supposed to be last week, but that's another story). So ... about a dozen PC clients and thirty mobile clients on Psion/Teklogix Workabout Pros are attacking our Sql Server 2005 database and finding lots of little niggles and (let's face it) bugs for us to fix. I want to make a post that details some of the more interesting parts of the project later on.
Don't forget that Wednesday night (July 12th) is the night for our next AWDNUG meeting. This month we're meeting at the Riverina Institute of TAFE, which is in Albury. It's the "second floor in E block", apparently. Drop me a message if you want to come and don't have detailed directions - I can forward you a map.
In other news: After two viewings I can confirm that Superman Returns is the best movie of the year. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest was also great fun. Seen 'em? Disagree? Leave me a comment!

It shipped? Awesome! Those handhelds look good. Hope the project is going well overall.
Cheers!

I thought Superman Returns was better than III and IV but a hell of a lot worse than I and II.
No real plot development. Spacey was forced. Parker was funny. Superman was wooden.
Infact there was too much back tracking to fill in what happened and not enough cool superman stuff.
No where near Batman Returns or Spiderman.
I mean... where the hell are they taking the series? There is no where to go! The only villian on the horizon is Luthor and Kriptonite. BORING!

I would definitely rate Superman Returns higher than Superman II. The original, of course, is the greatest superhero movie ever made, so nothing rates that high.
As for where they're taking the series ... that's a tough thing with Superman. I reckon he works better on the silver screen if he's just taking on human tragedies, rather than super-villains. That's why Lex works so well. Superman's all about the race to save people, rather than a one-on-one fight with a bad guy like, say, Spidey vs Doc Ock.
If they're able to maintain the dramatic tension with big disasters that Supes has to face, that'll suit me just fine. I'm in no rush to see super villains like in Superman II.

Gee I'm not sure about that best movie of the year call, maybe it'd win the blandest movie of the year!
Not just the home and away caliber plot, some how they even managed to suck the life out of the multi million dollar effects, the whole island raising thing... sure it looked pretty good, but all it was was an island coming out of the ocean... it doesn't really DO anything.
(Mind you I was never the greatest Superman comic fan either... he's just too SUPER!)
Batman Begins tops it for Comic book movies for me, maybe Sin City (though I haven't read the books so I speak from both sides of the camp)

Nothing beats Batman & Robin.

I know what you mean p00. Indestructible. Unlimited strength. Unlimited speed. Flying. Lazer and xray vision. He may as well shoot nuclear warheads out his ass.
