Potentially Offensive???
Today I was contacted by the HR department at work, with an unofficial warning about the potential for haraassment charges.
I was shocked! I mean, I may be a little bit politically incorrect now and then, but I don't think I'm really capable of harassing someone. What could I have possibly have done? Well, dear reader, let me explain:
At work, we have an employee database which has space for a short profile for each employee. Being the innovative and forthright person I am, I placed a link to my home page (Mad Props) in the profile.
Someone at work visited my profile page on the corporate Intranet, and followed the link through to the props. Well and good! They read down the page, and eventually came to Euan's link to Rate My Poo.
Now, let's revisit the exact words Euan used when he talked about that link:
Now before any of you visit the site and then start complaining to me or my host! It IS OFFENSIVE! Enter at your own choice!
Succinct enough? I would have thought so. Not the person visiting the Props, however! They clicked through anyway, and then complained to HR that the content was potentially offensive and that I should be notified.
So there you have it. We live in a funny world where someone would go to that much trouble to be offended, and then complain.
Anyway, life goes on, and my profile page now links to Mabsterama instead of Mad Props, so Euan's bizarre links are less likely to get me into trouble. Keep smiling!
